Frequently Asked Questions

What is trauma-informed?

To be trauma-informed means I understand trauma and have developed skills through training that I actively apply across my scope of practice. It’s more than saying I’m trauma-informed, I work everyday to BE trauma-informed.

What type of yoga do you teach?

Our seasonal yoga practices are rooted in classical Hatha yoga, Yin, Restorative, and Katonah yoga inspired, along with Traditional Chinese Medicine to support the whole of you throughout every seasonal transition. All levels are welcome.

What are seasonal practices?

We follow the seasons of Great Nature for its lessons and wisdom through the energetics, elements, and organs associated with each season. The intention is to return home to Great Nature and to stay in harmony with our body, mind, and heart through intentional, seasonal care.

What is Yin?

Yin Yoga is a lovely fusion of the ancient wisdom of Hatha yoga and the principles of Traditional Chinese Medicine. It’s a slow-paced, calm and passive style of yoga that invites us to sink deeper into ourselves holding poses for 3-5 minutes. These poses target the deep connective tissues of the body, helping to release tension and increase flow of Qi (life force) throughout the body.

What is Restorative Yoga?

A gentle and nurturing practice, invites you to surrender to the present moment and find solace in stillness. It’s a practice of deep relaxation, where the body is supported by a variety of props, as you hold 4-6 poses for 10-20 minutes, allowing you to release tension and restore balance. As you settle into each pose, tension melts away, and your body and mind are encouraged to let go, creating space for healing on multiple levels.

What is pranayama + meditation?

Pranayama is the art of using the breath in different patterns and styles to bring us to the present moment and shifting our chemistry. We explore the many variations of pranayama (breathing techniques) practices by following the seasons and then are led in a guided meditation to quiet the mind from work stress and noise of daily life.

Do I need props for yoga?

We’re all about accessibility and setting you up for a great experience. Therefore, we encourage all props for all of our on the mat practices.

What is breathwork healing?

An exploration with your body, mind, heart, and spirit through a somatic, self-healing technique. A 2-part active rhythmic breath done through the mouth to allow the overstimulated mind to surrender and saturate the body with prana to open up the energy channels to release stuck energy within the body.

I’ve never done breathwork healing, where should I start?

The great thing about breathwork healing is that it truly meets you where you are because you’re co-creating with your breath.

I would feel into whether you feel more comfortable in groups or one-on-one sessions. If groups are your jam, a virtual breathwork healing class or in-person circle will be a great place to start. If you prefer the personalized attention of a one-on-one, Private Breathwork Session will be perfect for you.

I’m nervous about a wave of emotions unlocking? Is this normal?

It is very common for emotions to arise in the breathwork healing as we move stuck emotional energy and debris up and out from the lower chakras. As the co-creator, you are in complete control of your experience, so at any time if the energy is overwhelming you can shift the breath to a normal pattern and slow it down.

A 1:1 session would be a great option for you to have extra support.

What is Usui Reiki?

A Japanese healing art of channeled energy to restore your energy flow to activate your body’s natural healing process to restore physical, emotional, and spiritual wellbeing. It’s a form of energy healing that can be done with hands on placements on the body or distant reiki (no-hands on).
